Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2017-18 school year!

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Cody Riding and I am the proud new principal of Alta Vista Elementary School. I am a 5th generation native of Arizona and I love the Arizona desert. I graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelors in Elementary Education. I also attended Northern Arizona University and received my Masters in Educational Leadership. I have taught grades 3rd – 6th in various districts in the valley. I have spent the last 4 years working at Shaw Butte as the assistant principal. I am married to my wonderful wife, Claire who taught 1st grade for several years, and we have three beautiful children.

Having been in the district for several years, I have seen the great things Alta Vista has been accomplishing. A lot of progress has been made in student achievement and I will strive to keep the momentum going. I know the importance of placing the students first and the great value of education.

Here at Alta Vista, the vision statement is “The Alta Vista community will provide a safe, inviting environment for our students, where high standards for learning and citizenship are maintained.” I believe this statement is true and am looking forward to helping the students at Alta Vista reach their potential and succeed while they are here.

Meet the teacher night will be Thursday, August 3rd from 4:30 – 5:30pm. Please take this opportunity to visit your child(ren)'s classroom and get to know their teacher(s). The first day of school will be Monday, August 7th with the first bell ringing at 8:10am. Students will be allowed on campus beginning at 8:00am. Just a reminder that school gets out at 3:15pm, except for Wednesdays which dismisses at 1:45pm.

I am excited for this year and the opportunity I have to work with the staff, parents and students of Alta Vista. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, comments or concerns you may have.
